Matt Wong Chong Ee

Matt Wong embarked on his legal career at Skrine, focusing in general civil and banking litigation. However, his passion for family law led him to join a family firm exclusively dedicated to handling highly contentious matrimonial matters and cases involving children.

Matt Wong’s

Family Proceedings

In addition to the typical challenges encountered in marital breakdowns like divorce, Matt frequently deals with issues of domestic violence and substance abuse within matrimonial disputes. He has represented survivors of domestic violence, and defended individuals accused of such offences in family and criminal proceedings. Matt has cultivated valuable experience in working with investigating officers, welfare officers, and healthcare professionals in the conduct of these matters. His experience extends to cases involving international and domestic parental abduction, dissipation of matrimonial assets, as well as their preservation.

Court Experience

Matt has conducted trials and hearings independently across all court levels. These include contentious cases such as unilateral conversion to Islam, parental abduction cases both domestically and internationally, DNA and paternity disputes, parental alienation, allegations of sexual and other forms of abuse, prevention of asset dissipation by a spouse, citizenship declaration and more.

ADR

Beyond his litigation experience, Matt is a qualified mediator and a HRD certified trainer. He was among the pioneering professionals in Malaysia to undergo collaborative practice training. As a mediator, Matt is empaneled with the Malaysian International Mediation Centre (MIMC) and the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC). He is also trained in Child-Inclusive mediation. Matt firmly believes that court litigation may not always be the most suitable form of dispute resolution for family and civil matters. He emphasizes the importance of empowering disputing parties to make informed decisions about their own affairs.

Affiliations and Training

Currently, Matt serves on the Malaysia Bar Council’s Mediation Committee and sub-committee of the Family Law Committee. He had previously served on sub-committees of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Bar Committees. He regularly conducts talks and workshops for the various state bar committees, and is a trainer of mediation skills under MIMC.
